Johnny SuedeAuthor. Guitarist. Declared alias of Jason Colapietro.

Johnny Suede

The name on the books, the essays and the songs. Johnny Suede is Jason Colapietro, declared and on the record.

Why an alias at all

Musicians have always had stage names. What is new is a world where a name can be cloned by a model in an afternoon. Declaring the alias publicly, and binding it to a real person with a verifiable record, is the small-scale version of what Suede Labs builds at infrastructure scale.

The work

Five published books, three of them on creative ownership. A running series of essays on the attention economy and creator rights. Songs written in a lineage that runs from Lennon and Dylan through Jeff Buckley and Elliott Smith.
